On the third day out we roused ourselves from the laziness of day two and opted for a day of exploration. We decided to head for a protected cove on Dicebox Island. Day three: Kayak from Clark Island to Dicebox Island I can’t remember when I last had such a relaxing day. Our second day on Clark Island was a mellow one – filled with reading, beach-combing, snoozing in the sun and drinking bagged wine. (On the second night we had two young guys and on the third night we had the island to ourselves!) Salmon Beach is a great spot to launch from but you need to know someone so you can park your car on their property We leave from this beach under threatening skies the swell and waves get our attention within 10 minutes of launching And then the sun comes out – and we have one heck of a beautiful campsite on Clark Island One of the fellows already on the island surveys our kayaks (and probably laments our presence) Judy camps on the site of an old homestead A tarp is an essential on any trip to the west coast of Vancouver Island There are maintained – non-smelly outhouses at campsites in the islands One of the pleasures of west coast kayaking is a campfire Beautiful evening light The golden hour Evening paddle under very calm conditions Day two on Clark Island

There were two men already camped on the island but that was it. My arms hadn’t had such a workout in a very long time and literally ached.
